Comparison
Weavr vs Things
One helps you plan everything. The other keeps you moving through what's already in progress.

Things, by Cultured Code, is one of the best-loved task managers on the Mac, and for good reason. Weavr is a much smaller app that does a different job. If you're choosing between them, the question isn't which one is better. It's which problem you have.
What Things is for
Things is built for planning and organizing. You collect tasks in an Inbox, plan your day in Today, see the week ahead in Upcoming, and break bigger work into projects with headings and checklists. It has time-based reminders, understands dates as you type them ("tomorrow", "in four days"), and keeps everything in sync across Mac, iPhone and iPad through Things Cloud.
When you sit down to work, Things shows you a list and you choose what to do from it.
What Weavr is for
Weavr is built for the work you've already started and keep coming back to: the five or six things in progress at once, each moving forward a step at a time. Each one is a thread that remembers the step you're on.
Weavr doesn't show you a list to choose from. It lives in your menu bar and shows one thread and its step. When you finish a stretch or hit a wait, you press Next and it puts you on the next thread, right where you left it. Everything takes its turn, so the thing you were waiting on doesn't slip away while you're busy with something else.
Side by side
| Things | Weavr | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Planning your days and organizing every task and project | Moving several pieces of ongoing work forward without losing your place |
| How you pick what to do | You look at a list (Today, Upcoming, a project) and choose | You press Next and Weavr hands you the next thread in rotation |
| Where it lives | A window, plus Quick Entry from anywhere | The menu bar, always showing what you're on |
| Projects | Projects with headings and checklists | Threads with a current step and a queue of next steps |
| Importance | You order the list and decide what goes in Today | A priority makes a thread come back more often |
| Small tasks | To-dos in your lists | To-dos that drop in between threads |
| Dates and times | Scheduled and repeating to-dos, deadlines, reminders, calendar events in Today | Scheduled to-dos, one-time or repeating, that interrupt on time |
| Devices | Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, synced through Things Cloud | Mac only. No account, no sync, data stays on your Mac |
Choose Things if
- You want one place to capture and organize everything, big and small.
- You plan your day in the morning and work from that plan.
- You need your tasks on your iPhone and iPad too.
Choose Weavr if
- You juggle several ongoing things at once and keep losing your place in one of them.
- You hit waits all day (builds, reviews, replies) and fill them with other work.
- You'd rather be handed the next thing than pick it from a list every time.
Or use both
They fit together well. Keep Things as your master list for planning, and put the handful of projects you're actively moving forward into Weavr as threads. Things holds everything you might do. Weavr keeps you cycling through what you're doing right now.
